It has been a long time coming, but we finally bought a house! It’s been 10 days since the closing date and it’s all finally starting to sink in.
Buying a house has never really been at the top of our priority list – we decided a long time ago to make due with what we had and quite frankly we were in no rush to move or to buy a bigger place. Keeping up with a tiny 1000 square foot place suited our hectic lifestyles and other than having guests the size of the place really never bothered us. So when we finally decided to make the move and become home owners our attitude was pretty similar to Goldilocks and the Three Bears (you know, the ones from the nursery rhyme…). We din’t want something too big, or something too small, we wanted something just right!
In true “Jenna” fashion we had several family meetings… and let’s be serious, Little Dude only made it to the first one before he stopped being invited. I scoured the internet for several months, I was impatiently patiently waiting for spring and new listings to come on the market – in the mean time we discussed items like location, schools, price ranges, maintenance (yard size), sidewalks, traffic on the street, number of bedrooms, number of bathrooms, fixer upper vs. move in ready and more.
When we finally made the move and contacted a realtor (more coming in another post about this) it didn’t take very much time until we made an offer, had it accepted, got financing in place, inspections done and then started planning paint and furniture.
The whole experience so far feels like a bit of a whirl wind, yet a happy (and sometimes overwhelming) one at the same time.
Lastly, I underestimated (of course I did…) the amount involved with buying a house. The time t would take and the number of things I would have added on my regular super long “to do” list. That said, I can’t wait to share every little detail with you and give you some of the gory details of what went down at some of those family meetings, differences in priorities between the Mr. and I, who we chose as a realtor to help us and why, and all the fun things that follow. But for now, I need to go unpack another box!
