Best FREE Apps for Toddlers

There are a gazillion apps out there all claiming to be educational in one way or another to make this generation of parents feel good about allowing our children some screen time. Whether or not you let your child use a tablet to play games or watch video of some sort is a whole other topic of conversation… let’s just assume that if you’re here, you are like me and although you don’t want your child to be on a tablet all the time, having some games and shows ready is on your to-do list before any major travel day. I have put together this list of the Best FREE Apps for Toddlers and Preschoolers (available on apple products for sure, android users… I am not 100% sure). And, if you would like to see what other items Little Dude carries in his airplane bag you can get the full list here.

Little Dude has tried every single one of these apps and recommends them. We went through tons of other downloads before narrowing the list, but in the end are sharing his favourites. The apps he asks for, the ones he opens almost every time he is on the iPad (especially during travel) and the ones he wants you to watch him play because he is proud of what he can do in the app and wants to show you.

top ten apple apps for toddlers

  1. Trucks HD
  2. More Trucks HD
  3. Monster Truck Kids Coloring
  4. My Talking Tom
  5. Balloon Pop
  6. Baby Games
  7. Peekaboo Barn
  8. Lego Duplo Trains
  9. Lego Duplo Junior
  10. Elmo ABC

I didn’t include Netflix in the list – this is definitely Little Dude’s favorite app since its where he can find Paw Patrol on the iPad. I didn’t include it in the top 10 because although the app is free a subscription to Netflix is not. If you have a subscription however make sure to download episodes of your child’s favorite show so they can watch without an internet connection (and you can keep them offline if that is something you are trying to do).

Lastly, I didn’t include the Peppa Pig Holiday Game since it is an app I purchased, but it is a great app. It teaches a variety of different things mostly related to travel (which I love) and has games that will challenge your toddler/preschooler a little more than some of the other apps.

If you have other apps that you think we should try out, let me know! I am always looking for the best free apps for toddlers and preschoolers to keep things interesting for Little Dude. Thanks for reading, don’t forget to share this post, it really means the world to me 🙂
