Most of us start thinking of road trip games for kids leading up to the spring… that is the beginning of road trip season after all. BUT there are few other “forgotten” times of the year that families are travelling, often in poor weather conditions, with impatient children trying to make it to see friends and family. I am talking about those holiday trips home and the winter road trips to airports near and far for everyone to make their winter escapes to warmer climates.
As children get older there are many options to keep them entertained from audio books to car games, but toddlers and preschoolers are the most complicated to entertain (in my opinion). They have short attention spans that sometimes not even a tablet can keep occupied for any length of time. That said, Little Dude has some favorite education (and FREE) games he really loves on the iPad so road trips are a prime opportunity to give him a little extra freedom to play and watch his favorite shows.
With the hopes of turning Road Trip Games for Kids into a learning opportunity I asked the experts at Little Dude’s preschool and a few teacher friends for their recommendations.
Here are 5 ideas sure to keep the little ones entertained and the adults stress level as low as possible:
- Identify Shapes, Colors and Objects
- I spy with my little eye something that is…
- Counting and Identification with a deck of cards
- Classic Sing-A-Long
- Find the letters A-Z in that order (make it harder and find letters outside of the car only)
Do you have any other games we could add to out list?
Happy & safe travels,
Jenna
