Rodd Miramichi River Hotel – Miramichi, NB

Rodd Miramichi River Hotel - Miramichi, NB

The Mr. and I had been trying to plan a vacation get-a-way for just the two of us for nearly 2 years and, well… it just didn’t seem to be working out! So, like all good business people we applied the KISS method (Keep It Simple Stupid) and came to the conclusion that a stay-cation is exactly what we needed. It would provide us with some alone time away from home, but yet be close enough that we wouldn’t need to arrange for time off work or require any extreme babysitting services from family members.

When we started narrowing down the places to test out for our first stay-cation Miramichi, NB kept shooting to the top of the list. And so, we went to Miramichi!

With very few plans for the weekend the only thing we knew was that we would want to stay somewhere nice; somewhere that if we decided not even to leave the hotel it wouldn’t matter because the hotel was so nice enough it felt like we should “just stay in”. The Rodd Miramichi River was a shoe in.

location
You simply can’t beat a room with a view. The Rodd’s location on the banks of the Miramichi river provides picturesque views of the shoreline, Centennial Bridge and surrounding business district.

Be sure to type the address in your GPS to avoid any confusion with one way streets or if you’re feeling adventurous… simply follow the river and look for the yellow hotel riverside. It will be on your left as you drive through town.

the hotel
The Rodd has recently been renovated and it is really worth seeing! Being on the Miramichi river makes you feel like you should be fishing or at a camp, but for those of us staying in the city staying in a camp just doesn’t work. The decor at the hotel creates a vibe of a modern fishing camp all while maintaining an upscale atmosphere.

The lobby is fully equipped with a snack bar for late night munchies, two computers which act as a the business center, comfy couches for lounging and dramatic art work to keep you looking around making sure not to miss anything.

The elevators are also worth mentioning… for those who typically travel with a little one you understand where I am coming from. Squeezing a stroller, luggage and adult size humans in an elevator can be a feat in itself. I am happy to report the elevator space seemed more than adequate!

the room
The room was spacious, had a great view of the river, a cozy seating area, a bar cart ready with wine glasses and a modern bathroom with a fancy shower head.

I really enjoyed the modern feel of the room. Oh, and yes, it was very clean and had good water pressure for those wondering (two things I always look for in a hotel room for whatever reason).

Even though the hotel and the room were both impressive there is always a little something that could be improved. We had to really search high and low to find something here as it seemed like The Rodd thought of it all, there was even a makeup specific facecloth in the bathroom!

The two things we would improve were having a mini fridge other than the one for the mini bar and having high definition sports channels. Like I said, we really had to search for something to improve!

amenities
Free parking is key for me. It really annoys me to book a hotel stay only to find out I will be paying $20/night to park my vehicle – Thankfully The Rodd offers FREE PARKING! There is a pool, which we didn’t test out this trip but will certainly try out during our next stay when Little Dude is with us. It looked inviting, had great views of the river and had an overall resort feel to it.

Lastly, The Rodd offers free WiFi; and, not only as it free, it worked well! As you’ve heard me say before it’s all about the little things… Free parking, Free WiFi AND kids eat Free

We had a great stay-cation at the Rodd Miramichi River – it rained all weekend which kind of worked in our favour. It gave us more time to relax and enjoy the cozy room 🙂 We can’t wait to come back and explore French Fort Cove, Beaubears Island and Ritchie Wharf Park with Little Dude!

My Shoes for That: Michael Kors Metallic Flats – suitable for being a tourist during the day and fine dining by night.

I would like to extend my gratitude to the Rodd Miramichi River for sponsoring our stay.
As always, all opinions are entirely my own.
