Simple & Delicious Crab Dip

I will always remember this Crab Dip recipe first and foremost as a Christmas dish.  In recent years however we started making the crab dip more frequently and for variety of occasions. After-all, why wait until once a year to make something so simple and so delicious? That said, my mom makes it better than anyone else! Isn’t it funny how two people can make the same recipe and it not taste the same?

I last made the crab dip for Little Dude’s Fishing themed birthday party and it was a huge hit! The adults were the ones indulging for the most part, but I received many compliments that I was happy to accept. At the birthday party I decorated the platter with a red bell pepper crab and served the crab dip with ritz crackers.

It wasn’t until one of the little party guests took over the ritz crackers that I noticed one of the adults using chips to eat the dip. Chips and dip are always a perfect pair! I’m not sure why I hadn’t thought to pair this dip with plain chips before.

Fast forward 6 months later… I have been trying to find a time to get a few moms together most of whom have all had a baby in the past 6 months and could really use a girls’ night. I knew a chick flick (that we likely wouldn’t watch) was in order, wine and a snack or two.

Delicious Crab Dip

This crab dip recipe immediately came to mind which meant I just needed to consider what type of wine would pair nicely with it. I am not an expert when it comes to wine pairing and really didn’t want to resort to the default selections for food pairing so I had a little chat with the “wine guy” at NB Liquor who suggested that a sauvignon blanc would pair well with the crab and bring out the sweetness of the fish while not overpowering the flavours. And, lucky for me, Woodbridge wine and Miss Vickie’s chips are running a promotion at NB Liquor (May 1 – May 29, 2019) where you receive a free bag of chips with the purchase of a bottle of Woodbridge wine. A steal of a deal, the perfect pairing for my crab dip and not to mention super convenient for my girls’ night prep.

It paired well with the wine, but I have to say I loved the crab dip with Miss Vickie’s chips!

My pleasure! Kettle chips (like the ones from Miss Vickie’s), bacon dipper crackers or sociable crackers all pair really well. Sometimes I set up a few kinds around the dip to dress up the platter 🙂
